    .NET Remoting Contexts

    In a distributed architecture, disparate components co-operate to perform work, and in such an architecture there needs to be a streamlined infrastructure for providing cross object communication. .NET framework introduces a new one, called .NET Remoting. .NET remoting is the glue that links together components (aka assemblies) in different .NET application domains. In addition to the marshalling of calls across these app domains, the remoting infrastructure also maintains a context for each assembly, and each method call that crosses over assembly boundaries. In this article, Kaushal Sanghavi looks at what contexts are, how they work, and how they can be used to pass data between different objects.

    Security is important. Most developers don't like security. It requires a lot of thought. It requires study. Most developers would rather just "write code", and leave security to "somebody else". Unfortunately, if you are a developer and your job is to produce an application, then guess who that "somebody else" usually is? It's YOU. Even behemoth Microsoft got the message loud and clear. They've made security the single most important thing, above everything else. Wanna know why .NET Server, which was supposed to be released back in March, is delayed until the third quarter? Security! They weren't satisfied, and so they went back to the drawing board, so to speak. And its for real, too.     Using Web Services for Remoting over the Internet

    This article describes a design and implementation (C#) of the Remoting over Internet using the Web Service as a gateway into the Remoting infrastructure. The Web Service Gateway (Custom Remoting Channel) allows to enhance the remoting channel over Internet and its chaining with another heterogeneous channel. Consuming a remote object over Internet is full transparently and it doesn't require any special implementation from the remoting via intranet. The Web Service Gateway enables to create a logical model of the connectivity between the different platforms and languages. Before than we will go to its implementation details, let's start it with usage and configuration issue. For some demonstration purpose I will use a MSMQ Custom Remoting Channel (MSMQChannelLib.dll), which I described in my previously article [1]. I am assuming that you have a knowledge of the .Net Remoting and Web Service.
