Hi,

I'm using "Microsft OLE DB provider for Oracle" to connect with oracle.

I'm trying to create connection string through .udl file, i specified server
name, user and password and then tested the connection, it is giving me the
following error.

"Test Connection failed because of an error in initializing provider. Oracle
client and networking components were not found.These components are
supplied by Oracle Corporation and are part of Oracle Version 7.3.3 or later
client software installation.

Provider is unable to function until these components are installed."

please advice for the following queries

- Can i connect to my Oracle server without using client software.

- If i installed a client software then what would be the impact on other
installed softwares.

Please suggest ASAP.

It sounds like you don't have SQLNet installed on the machine that's trying
to make the connection.

Chuck Peper (VIP)

You need to have sqlnet (oracle 7 or less) or Net8 (oracle8 and above) on
you web server. No affect on other stuff it's just connectors.

i have problem like u but after install oracle client and seting service
name no happend again
btw
i think to connect oracle server need olebdb for oracle provider same
version and have service name.
how if just installed oledb provider for oracle without oracle client ?
