I have never taken an exam before but Im wondering if they still hold the
same type of impact on employers. I was talking to some co-workers, telling
them that i was thinking of taking the ASP.NET exam (when it comes out of
beta) and they were saying that doesnt mean much to employers anymore. What
is your guys' (and gals) opinion about this? For those certified, how has
holding the certification benefited your career? Thanks.

My experience is: All things being equal, the company will take
the person with the certification. But only if everything else is
equal. I have been told by MANY companies that they won't hire
anyone based on certification, that they MUST have the experience
to back it up.

On the other hand: Everything you can put on a resume is
helpful. Plus, most companies pay for these exams, so it is
nothing out of your pocket, and certainly cannot hurt you in any
way.

So my answer is: As long as you don't have to foot the bill, take
all the tests you can.
