I need to link several tables together by a unique id when doing a insert
from a form.

Actaully perhaps I would be better to generate a unique number at runtime
and insert that to the db (access 2000) as an identifyer rather than rely on
an autonumber feild?

Thoughts?

Paul

Paul,

We are using an "autonumber" in our project, there is no problems at all so
far. I think it is a very useful way to generate a unique number.

Then you can just put a statement at the end of your procedure:
RETURN SCOPE_IDENTITY()

and in that way you can catch the auto-generated identity on your code, by
using a OUTPUT parameter on the procedure.

Cheers,
Alexandre Rocco
