Hello folks,

What is better? What the difference? Performance?

Can somebody tell me something more about this subject?

Thanks,
Boah

I heard that the tilde only works within server controls. This may be the
case, as I was not able to get it working on a normal ASPX.

Request.ApplicationPath is also a hell of lot easier to read and comprehend
than ~.

All I can say is that the IBuySpy portal uses Request.ApplicationPath, so it
can't be that bad. Besides, ~ isn't really an option anyways, according to
what I've heard. Unless everything you do is in user controls..

I don't know how expensive to get it in the first place.

Try them both in a loop for say 10000 iterations and time each one.

I think the point is rather irrelvant anyhow. I think you are most likely concentrating too hard on implementation details that wiill have no bearing on the application. Other areas of performance will most likely be significantly more critical than this extremely minor point.

Under the covers the "`" just resolves to Request.ApplicationPath. Its
use is more as a convenient shorthand notation as opposed to a perf win.

Hope this helps,

Just the same way = resolves to response.write I would assume?

Alaways good to have the experts on board, keep up the good work.

Thanks,
Kris.

Under the covers the "`" just resolves to Request.ApplicationPath. Its use is more as a convenient shorthand notation as opposed to a perf win.

Hope this helps,

Scott

I think the point is rather irrelvant anyhow. I think you are most likely concentrating too hard on implementation details that wiill have no bearing on the application. Other areas of performance will most likely be significantly more critical than this extremely minor point.

I don't know how expensive to get it in the first place.

Try them both in a loop for say 10000 iterations and time each one.

I heard that the tilde only works within server controls. This may be the
case, as I was not able to get it working on a normal ASPX.
