hello, i'm writing a new site from scratch, so i thought i could try that
.NET thingie :)
i currently program asp with notepad and dunno why .net will be changing my
life yet, but i must like beta software :-)

so far, today i setup my first page and connected to a sql database using a
sqldatareader to check login/password (wow ;)

i wanted to know if there's a lot of people trying the beta (and WHY! ;)...
and ask a few questions if you like :

1. what is the purpose of the data validators, when javascript is more
suited to the task?
(i guess not requiring any javascript knowledge is an answer, i'd just like
to know ;)

2. i've yet to understand how to use the design interface concerning
databases, so i write hand code to connect and close the databases... i must
be missing something there, but dragging connection or command objects seems
to put a lot of useless code in either the global.aspx or the xxx.aspx
pages, so i must be mistaking VS7 for an arcade game (you know, click and
shoot (your database ;)

3. really stupid question : is there a way to make VS7 to include
automatically pictures when you select them from outside the project? i know
ultradev asks if you want to copy say c:\temp\mybanner.jpg in the project if
you save the webpage containing it... but so far VS keeps the links to the
pics as they are, even via http://... :)

4. that's all, just wanting to know everyone, seems there's not a lot of
messages around there, waited for 24h ;)

ps: forgive the bad english, i'm french.

The purpose of the Data Validators is that it makes validating data easier.
Even if you know Javascript, adding a Data Validator to your code is easier
and faster than adding a Javascript function.

I haven't used Visual Studio so I can't comment on your other questions.

Your english is very good.

thanks, i read all that fantasy 1000+ pages books in english, that teached
me *some* english ;)

i beg to differ as i have written some javascript for the most validation
cases, and i tend to prefer message boxes to message labels ;)

apart from that, still learning... is there a way to setup a form data
driven page (select, update, insert) without writing code in .NET?
i tried to dabble in the wysiwyg data controls but they (and the data form
wizard) aren't documented AFAIK... slow process ;)

i'm still writing database code by hand, like always :-)
