Can anyone tell me what kind of graphics programming we can expect to be
able to do with the .NET Framework libraries, and in particular with C#
(maybe you can point out some tutorials, or articles you are aware of)?

Since the DirectX 8 SDK just recently became available, would this be the
way to go?

In this case it would be calling unmanaged code in the DirectX libraries,
but what if you want to take advantage the CLR (I know System.Draw has some
2D classes but what about 3D programming)?

Thanks in advance!

Richard,

GDI+ is contained in the System.Drawing namespace and from what I can gather
with limited exposure, it only does 2D. It seems that DX8 is the way to go
for 3D graphics. The exciting thing is the typelibs included in DX8 SDK can
be imported into .NET and used in C#, VB7 like any other COM components.
There is one bug in the typelibs that you need to fix first before using the
3D portion. See
http://discuss.develop.com/archives/wa.exe?A2=ind0012C&L=DOTNET&P=R16258 .
I haven't done this so I don't have many answers, but hopefully I'll be able
to soon.

Viewpoint technologies also offers some great 3-D
tools using XML technology to render on-the-fly fully
3-D which you can move around and apply movement to.
If your looking for, say, a product bottle that you
can move around and maybe un-screw the lid. This does
the trick...and pretty darn good if I must say. It is
a plug-in, but worth the users download I think...Good
luck...
