Lentil Stew
I am just getting around to the ASPPLUS QuickStart Guide. I am going through
the web forms and am having ahard time figuring out what the following does:

<%@ Import Namespace="System.Data" %>
<%@ Import Namespace="System.Data.SQL" %>

Thanks,

Len Stewart

it adds the declarations of the ADO+ and ADOSQL functions in the
"vocabulary" of the page
(you have the same in C++)

for the example, just
set Conn = NEW SQLConnection
gives syntax error

<%@ Import Namespace="System.Data.SQL" %>
set Conn = NEW SQLConnection
runs ok

SO does that mean it is kinda like the ADOVBS.inc - but on a much larger
scale?

Where is there a reference for all of the namespace declarations I can make?
How do I know what namespace declarations(?) I have access too?

Thanks,

LS

No, it's not at all like ADOVBS.inc. There's been a lot of discussion
regarding the using/Import keyword. You may want to search the archive for
official (MS) explanation. But I'll add to the confusion.

I saw an explaination that made sense to me. using/Import is a compiler
directive, so it's best to look at it from the compiler's point of view.
When you issue a using/Import directive, you add to the compiler's
"namespace lookup" list. This list is searched _first_ when the compiler
encounters an unknown class

I hope this clears it up somewhat.

BTW, here is an online reference of the .NET namespaces (url may wrap)

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?PP=/library/toc/cpref/cpref0.x
ml&tocPath=cpref0&URL=/library/dotnet/cpref/cpref_start.htm

Now this is a great page!
(at least where I am concerned)
