Raw power: isapi vs ashx

My client has a GIS mapping system calculating the
best cycling routes between 2 zip/post codes and
showing all road intersections in between.
I don't have all implementation details, but it's a c++ isapi
dll fetching coordinates from text files and drawing the
the route on a web page.
Is there a way to use .NET either to port it to a DB driven
app without losing the raw speed of the native isapi?
What are the pros and cons?

Naturally a C#/VB.net/ASP.NET solution will be slower due to the basic fact=
that the code must run through the .NET runtime.

I think you need to define your reason for moving to move to .NET in the fi=
rst place, then weigh those advantages against the raw speed but decreased =
productivity with a C++/ISAPI solution.

With a .NET solution you could create a custom handler to provide the same =
functionality that the current ISAPI solution provides.

Food for thought anyhow.
