Custom Software Development
I am working through some sample files from ADO.Net Step By Step

When I attempt to run the ASP.Net project, it gives me the following error
message when it attempts to load the data adapters:

The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file
'C:\adonetsbs\SampleDBs\nwind.mdb'. It is already opened exclusively by
another user, or you need permission to view its data.

The connection string being used is this:

Me.cnNorthwind.ConnectionString =
"Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Password="""";User ID=Admin;Data
Source=C:\adonets" & _
"bs\SampleDBs\nwind.mdb;Mode=Share Deny None;Extended
Properties="""";Jet OLEDB:Sys" & _
"tem database="""";Jet OLEDB:Registry Path="""";Jet
OLEDB:Database Password="""";Jet OL" & _
"EDB:Engine Type=5;Jet OLEDB:Database Locking Mode=1;Jet
OLEDB:Global Partial Bul" & _
"k Ops=2;Jet OLEDB:Global Bulk Transactions=1;Jet OLEDB:New
Database Password="""";" & _
"Jet OLEDB:Create System Database=False;Jet OLEDB:Encrypt
Database=False;Jet OLED" & _
"B:Don't Copy Locale on Compact=False;Jet OLEDB:Compact Without
Replica Repair=Fa" & _
"lse;Jet OLEDB:SFP=False"

Any thoughts how to rectify this?

Thanks.

Kel

you should use the simpler connection string @
http://www.learnasp.com/freebook/learn/dbopen.aspx
and see if you get same error. This is likely a simple permissions problem
that others on list will know how to resolve.

If one user open this database, and not close the connection,
You will get this message, if this is the problem, go to the database
folder, you can see a log file has been created. If you can't delete the log
file, restart the web server.

Kel Good
Thanks Charles!

The simpler connection string has me up and running again. I would be
interested in any comments others can offer on what might cause that kind of
permission challenges though...
