I get this error when I try to run and debug an app:

---------------------
Error while trying to run project: Unable to start debugging on the web server. Could not start ASP.NET or ATL Server debugging.

Verify that ASP.NET or ATL Server is correctly installed on the server. Would you like to disable future attempts to debug ASP.NET pages for this project?
---------------------

I've checked the archives and other resources and have found references to this error, but found no solutions posted to fix this problem. I've tried the suggestions the VS help file and from various KB articles that seem to be related to this problem. I've installed the .NET service pack and made sure that everything is in working order. I'm able to connect to and create projects/applications to my IIS server without any problems (my IIS server is on the same machine as VS and I've tried referencing it both as my machine name and as "localhost") I've given "everyone" access to the "debugging" user group. And, nothing seems to fix the problem.

Anyone here solved this problem?

TIA,
Stephen

Did you run the IIS Lockdown application? If so that can disable the debugging. I do not have the support.microsoft.com incident # - check the site for more info.

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction Mark!

I completely forgot I had IIS url scan installed on my box - I uninstalled
that and I don't have any more problems debugging.

Stephen,

You may not need to uninstall the URLScan/IIS Lockdown app. Find your
urlscan.ini file and try adding some entries in it as follows:

- Under the "[AllowVerbs]" section, add "DEBUG". This needs to be in caps;
it is case-sensitive.

- Under the "[Extensions]", add the following extensions:
ASPX
ASCX

Restart IIS.
