I get "[XmlException: There is invalid data at the root level. Line 1,
position 1.]" when I set the TreeNodeSrc attribute of a treeview control to a
file that generates the XML needed to build the tree. Any ideas?

Hi,

I am not sure that I have a full understanding of exactly what you are
doing, but I have seen the same error message. In my case, this happened
because Microsoft does not support the use of authentication and
authorization with the TreeView's XML and XS: files. In my experience, the
use of encryption can also screw things up. There are a few options for
dealing with this:

1. Allow anonymous access to the XML and XSL files (requires that you are
using NTFS).
2. Relocate the XML and XSL files to a directory that allows anonymous access.
3. Use a fully qualified file system path to specify the XML and XSL file
locations in the TreeView's properties.

Hi,

I once got that error message when on my first line I had written "XML" in capital letters. Changing to lower case solved the problem.

This is my correct first line.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
