Hi,

I'm in the process of trying to start my own web development business. I've decided to use my adaptation of the portal as what I sell. I think my package will consist of the portal with customizations to the style sheet for color, font, etc, one graphic for the banner, consulting on the initial layout of their portal (what tabs should they have... how should they organize their information), set up and training.

Web site promotion will be sold separately (some customers may not want/need this).

I have NO idea what to charge for this. I've seen that some companies charge $100 per page but since the portal doesn't fit into that model, I'm stuck.

So, forgetting about web site promotion, what should I charge? $500? $1000? Please feel free to respond directly to my email below if you want to keep this information semi confidential.

Thanks,

Karen Healey

Beattie, Barry
how much work is involved in customising each IBS to the clients needs? how
about (hours * $50/hour) ? Will each client have the same needs? want the
same features?

I busted a gut for 3 months developing a CMS for $4500 (split between 3 of
us). Towards the end I found someone selling somthing very similar for
$49.95. Oh well...

It certainly does depend on content as well as coding and module
creation time. We have estimated that some of the modules we have
created take 25 hours between, screens, code, stored procedures, data
modeling and documentation. The portal we designed recently
(www.accessplus2000.com) was about 800 man hours for all of the
functionality, data etc. We now have 170 stored procedures. At our
rate of $159/hour that $127,200 which the client gladly paid.
