I have a form and am using validation to ensure that the users enter
the correct data.

In one of the fields the users are entering some data that I need to
check against a database (it's a discount code for a purchase).

When the form is submitted is there any way that I can check the
database and then if they have entered an invalid code, throw them back
to the page giving a standard validation failure?

I know that I can write my own code to do this, but was wondering if I
could just set something like Page.IsNotValid().

Try ValidatorControl.IsValid = false which should trigger the error message
display.
