I'm reading "Benchmarking Microsoft .NET vs. Sun Microsystem's J2EE: A Study
of Performance and Scalability."
http://www.gotdotnet.com/team/compare/petshopperf.aspx

At the bottom of page 3, the author discusses "Client Emulation" and mentions
that while "Oracle used a non-published proprietary driver program" Microsoft
used Quest Software's Benchmark Factory 2.5 to emulate clients. Why didn't
they use the Web Application Stress tool or the Application Center Test
(included with Visual Studio .NET Enterprise)? Why not use their own tools?

-Kevin

Answer is very simple.
Using a 3rd party tool enhances the crediablity. Also the conpetition can be judged using the same tool.

Good points, but I don't have the big budget to buy these 3rd party stress testing tools. I'd highly prefer they use a tool freely available so we can easily benchmark our own apps as well. Do you use Benchmark Factory or WAS?
