I used open "com1..." in QuickBasic and it was easy enough to find and use
I used the Comm control in VB6 (which i now do not have) and it was also easy enough to find and use
BUT i cannot get a clue what to do in VB.net !
I tried whatever search word i could imagine using the help ...
I searched the TOC of several books ...
And i do not have the VB6 to write a simple program and then upgrade it to see how i can do it .
Please somebody give me a clue !
It is my very first time i ever ask for help from the public .
I never had a single problem using older basic versions .
Things got enough complicated for a non professional developer .

I thank you both but i do prefer to solve this proplem programatically not using third party solutions .I found a microsoft solution in the VB resource pack but it uses DLL import and that is not a solution since i want to make a connection between a winxp pc and a pocket pc 2003 and also a connection between a pocket pc 2003 and a surveying instrument .I cannot understand why microsoft did things so hard .Are we talking about Basic or what ?

Hi,

There are a number of serial classes available online. I provide one in my
book (see below). Perhaps the easiest way might be to download NETComm.ocx
from my homepage. It includes an example.
