I'll like to install VB.NET on my computer and do it right.
I have both: VB.NET (Standard) AND Visual Studio.NET (academic)

The book I have "warn" me:
"You must install IIS before installing VB"

So, before even placing any of those CD into my computer I'll like to know:
1. Does any of these have IIS
2. If yes, hoe to comply with the above warning.
3. If not - where do I get IIS

Thanks,
Uzi

1. IIS comes with your operating system, not Visual Studio or VB. If you
have Win 2000 or Win XP Pro, it came with IIS, but was not installed in a
default OS installation. To install IIS, you need to use Add Remove
Programs -> Add Remove Windows Components. If you have Win XP Home, you'll
need to upgrade to XP Pro.
2. If you have already installed Visual Studio, all is not lost. You can
install IIS then follow the instructions in Microsoft Knowledgebase Article
#306005, which says in part:
"To fix IIS mappings for ASP.NET, follow these steps:
Run the Aspnet_regiis.exe utility:
Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open text box, type cmd, and then press ENTER.
At the command prompt, type the following, and then
press
ENTER:

"%windir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\version\aspnet_regiis.exe"
-i
In this path, version represents the version number of
the
.NET Framework that you installed on your server. You
must
replace this placeholder with the actual version
number
when you type the command.
Register the Aspnet_isapi.dll:
Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open text box, type the following, and then
press
ENTER:
regsvr32

%windir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\version\aspnet_isapi.dll
Regsvr32 returns the results of the registration. "

Hope this helps.

Thanks, Peter.

On a XP Pro machine I followed the steps specified in your email
I installed, then, A VB.NET and tried to create an ASP.NET Wep application.
(I allowed the default name of WebApplication1)

The computer "thought" about is for a little while and came with:
a dialog box named "Web Access Failed" :
"The default Web access mode for this project is set to file share,
but the project folder at 'http://localhost/WebApplication1'
can not be opened with the path
'c:\intpub\wwwroot\WebaApplication1'
The error returned was:
Unable to create Web Project 'Web Application1'.
The file path 'c:\intpub\wwwroot\WebaApplication1'
does not correspond to the URL
'http://localhost/WebApplication1'
The two need to map to the same server location.

What would you like to do:
1. Retry using a different file share path
2. Try to open the project with FrontPage Server Extension.

What is your advice, Peter?

BTW, If you have Visual Studio .NET, why are you messing with VB.NET
Standard Edition? Visual Studio includes everything in VB.NET Std and more.
A fall-back way to restore proper mappings is to uninstall the .NET
Framework, then reinstall.

Did you type the errors below or copy them? The 'c:\intpub\wwwroot' may be
a clue unless you typed wrong. It should probably be c:\inetpub\wwwroot.
Don't know if you have something mapped wrong or .... Look at IIS
configuration in control panel?

Thanks,

It is my typo, of course.
Looking in the Control Panel - I can't see IIS.
I even ran ItweakU to verify it is not hidden.

How can I do the mapping suggested?
