I have the machine.config "memory limit" for the worker process to restart
after 10% of memory (255mb) is used. This has always been plenty but now the
worker process is using that much memory every 30 minutes and
restarting...thus killing sessions and wreaking havoc on some apps.
My question is: What's the easiest way in perfmon to identify which of the
13 .net apps on this machine is leaking? The articles I have read are rather
onfusing with all of the counters I would need to add and compare. Any help
would be great....I'm getting yelled at every 30 minutes!!
Thanks

hi,

check your application in CLR profiler.
you will be able to figure out where exactly the memory leakage is .

Thanks

Wow. How did you determine you had to restart the worker process all the
time? Was it taking down the machine or something?

Best Regards,

Andy

spend time with the examples illustrated on MSDN. there is no easy way to
associate a worker process with a leaking application.

Andy, well..the users started complaining about lost sessions so that's when
i took a look and niticed the worker process using lots of memory and
restarting when it reached it's limit tha tis set in the machine.config.
I could always bump up that memory setting but I dont cosider that a fix.
Thanks, I'll keep looking unless anyone has any other suggestions.

the immediate place to start is with the dataset which can be a culprit. are
you initiating file uploads? if so, these are stored in memory and will
cause restarts. are you retrieving large datasets from the DB? if you are,
you need to trim the requests. issues such as these are dormant in code and
are tyically exposed when load starts to increase.
