I'm a computer student at a community college and I just bought VS.NET
Academic on Ebay. I got a sealed box. Before opening the box, I read the
licencing blurb on the outside of the box that talks about product activation
and registration required for 'continuous use'. Before I go any further and
open the box, can anyone tell me what the restrictions are? I just want to
install the product on a single computer in order to learn .NET. I also want
to create websites that I can use as examples of my work to prospective
employers. But what is this about 'continuing use'? Now, I'm wondering if I
should open the box or should resell this on Ebay. I know the full product
costs over $1000 which is well beyond my means.

I hope you got Visual Studio .NET 2003, and not 2002.
What you got (if 2003) is the Academic Edition, which sells for < $100 at
legitimate academic software resellers. It is identical to the Professional
Edition with the following exceptions:
1. There are additional student features on a CD in the set which add
project templates amenable to early learning.
2. The Academic Edition does not support remote debugging.
AFAIK, there are no restrictions on use for the retail package.
