Hi Phil,

I am working on a patch. I'm not sure why I need to use the command line
msiexec /p Mypatch.msp REINSTALL=ALL REINSTALLMODE=omus
to install the patch. I double-click the patch and it shows a UI as same as
when I use the command line to apply it. Is there any difference?

Also, I tried to add two Type 51 CAs for setting Reinstall and
Reinstallmode. I didn't not see any difference before and after I added
them. Do they contain any code? How can I make sure that they really work?

Thanks for any help.

Yolande

That command line is just the way it works. The purpose of the custom
actions for setting REINSTALL and REINSTALLMODE is simply to make it
convenient to deploy patches because the end user can just double-click the
msp file and doesn't need to set them. The end result should be the same as
far as the files patched, UI etc. I'm not sure what difference you were
expecting to see.

Hi Phil,

Thank you. I just don't know if the 2 CAs work because no matter I add these
CAs or not, the patch can be installed by double-clicking. Do I need any code
for the CAs?

Thanks

Yolande.

Just be sure that double-clicking the patch really does update the installed
product in the way you expect. If you've updated a file or a file version,
just be sure that the changes are there. Those type 51 CAs don't need any
code, they just set REINSTALL and REINSTALLMODE internally instead of with
the command.
